The Unforseen

Feature film "The Unforeseen", directed by Laura Dunn, produced by Terrence Mallick and Robert Redford, will feature a full score by Graham. The documentary tracks the battle of nature vs. humans, with Austin’s Barton Springs and its fight with developers and the symbolic focus. Dunn is an accomplished documentarian, Mallick initiated the idea for the project, and Redford, who learned to swim at Barton Springs, has thrown his weight behind it and is featured in the film.

Scanner Darkly Music Credits
A Scanner Darkly opens July 7th in theaters everywhere featuring Graham's score. Directed by Richard Linklater, based on book by Phillip K. Dick, and starring Keanu Reeves, Winona Ryder, Robert Downey Jr., and Woody Harrelson. There are several Radiohead songs that play in the film as well as a brand new solo song by lead singer Thom Yorke. One of the few early reviews of the film was from cinematical.com which said "Graham Reynolds' score…fit subtly and perfectly with the unique look of the film." I'm sure we'll get plenty of mixed press so it's nice to enjoy the good ones.

Only a small portion of the people who did so much work on this score will actually get their names on the big screen. So, here is the list in full.

Graham- piano, keyboards, drums, guitar, bass, vibraphone, glockenspiel, harmonium, percussion.
Erik Grostic- Upright Bass
Buzz Moran- Guitar, Percussion
Bruce Colson-Violin
Joseph Shuffield- Violin
Jason Elinof- Viola
Jon Dexter- Cello
Jeff Johnston- Saw

Paul Klemperer- baritone sax, Leigh-Anne Woodard-oboe, Thad Scott- tenor sax and flute, Ames Asbell-viola, Valerie Klatt-cello, Charles Prewitt-cello, P. Kellach Waddle-upright bass, Jessica Guilliam-Valls-upright bass, Eric Hargett-bass clarinet, Peter Stopschinski-electronics, Wayne Myers-trombone, Mike Hoffer-trombone.

Recorded and Mixed by Graham with a whole lot of help from:
Recording and Mixing Engineer- Buzz Moran
Score Preparation and Mix Assistant- Peter Stopschinski
Music Supervisor- Nic Ratner
Sound Supervisor- Tom Hammond

Thanks to Justin Hennard for the use of his harmonium.

I did a whole lot of mixing but Buzz also spent a great deal of time in the driver's seat and was a reliable second set of ears. Peter would notate my improvisations, then I would orchestrate them. Nic came several times and helped me find a direction for the music that Rick and the producers liked. Tom mixed our music into the film as it evolved and gave consistent advice. Rick, the editor, the producers, and Warner Brothers all had their hand in helping shape the direction of the music with notes, comments, and requests.

The whole thing was recorded here in my bedroom. Thanks to Shawn for tolerating that and for her idea to add guitar.

Introducing the Alamo organ: Phantom of the Opera
The Alamo's New Wurlizter Organ, April 27th. Introducing the Alamo Organ: Phantom of the Opera. Graham plays that cool new/old organ at the Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar along to the silent classic "Phantom of the Opera" starring Lon Chaney.

I've been trying to learn how to use this beast each month at the Dionysium. It's gigantic with 3 keyboards, a leslie, and more I buttons than I know what to do with. Some of them work and some don't so that's part of the challenge. Peter and I did a score for this a little while back and I'll be using that material mixed with some new stuff but all in pure organ form. After all the band, ensemble, and piano silent film scores we've done, it's going to be fun to go old school.

Blanton Museum of Art 24 Hour Grand Opening
The Blanton Museum of Art 24 Hour Grand Opening will feature Graham and the Golden Arm Trio performing a new commissioned work inspired by the art in the gallery where we'll perform on Sunday April 30th at 10:15am. The line-up will be Bruce Colson on violin, a yet-to-be-determined cellist, and Graham on piano. We'll also perform pieces from the upcoming May 30th Piano Trio concert.

The Intergalactic Nemesis on tour
The Intergalactic Nemes is on tour featuring Graham's piano and organ live score. From Illinois to California to New York, check out the developing details at salvagevanguard.org
